I think it is time to say thank you for that great distribution. I am using Linux since almost 5 years. I was never really
happy with a disribution and I never used one more than half a year. Now I can say I am using gentoo more than a year and
I am still happy with it.
I think developers get a lot of the following feedback:
could you include that package....
could you fix that bug....
help me install that....
your &%*& does not work
i want that feature....
etc...
So this time I want to thank all people developing gentoo.
THANK YOU
mod edit: Converted the topic to lowercase.
amne
changed title from "Thank you Gentoo developers" as a few threads have been merged into this one.

All I have to say is that I'm also very thankful.
I prefer Gentoo over all other distributions I've tested (so far: Slackware, Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake, SuSe and DamnSmallLinux (is that even to be considered an OS?).) _________________ - Agilo (Alessandro Lo-Presti) |

I'll DEFINATELY add myself to this one....I was a dualboot user for a long time....WinXP and Mandrake (hell I remember buying 7.0 ). My kids used the games on the linux side and I played windows games and did a lot of work on the windows side. I finally just got tired of mandrake and switched to windows full time. Took me about 6 months of spyware, adware, viruses, crashes, and just plain non-productivity to get fed up with it. I heard good things about Gentoo from my 3d forums (elysiun.com...yeah I'm a Blenderhead) , and decided to try it. Took me a week to install because I screwed up something (read read read the documentation....then read it again). I finally had to reinstall and took notes step by step. Now I find that all my programs run faster on Gentoo (Blender is just blazing now), I've got a more stable system (I laugh at my girlfriend every time Windows crashes or does something stupid ..."I just opened a webpage...why does it want to install a new printer????"), and I'm able to tweak anything on my system...which i LOVE.
But the best of all....portage. I got tired of linux because it took so much to manage packages....rpm's are a pain in the neck. Once I started working with portage, its like magic. I tell my girlfriend I love portage at least once a week, and I tell her I love linux at least every day (and I make sure to tell her I love her more when I say that). I make fun of her whenever I have to install something on her system because she can't figure it out....I keep telling her to type emerge and the program name (then usually duck to avoid something being thrown my way). I love portage, love the documentation, love love love the forums. Gentoo is the best thing since fermented bread. |

Yes!
Thank you. I'm a Gentoo user for about one year now. In the meantime all linux boxes (servers & desktops) of my company were changed to Gentoo (from Red Hat/Fedora).
I have a long way behind: From Mandrake to LinuxFromScratch, after that Red Hat and finally the best distro ever: Gentoo.
High performance of the boxes, best scalability (Red Hat users don't know much about CFLAGS), very good docs and great forum support.
A big THANK YOU for all your work and sleepless nights. _________________ Heaven: The police are British, the chefs Italian, the mechanics German, the lovers French and it's organized by the Swiss.

I just post, to say.... THANK YOU!!
This distro was what make me look at linux in another way so that I started to like it.
Before gentoo I looked at linux (in the university) and just use because I had to, not for the fun as now |

Very nice indeed..
I´ve been a full "hard-disk" linux user from about 1 year, and a gentoo user for 6 months...and after tested almost all the other distros, It feels nice to say: "This is MY distro"; I just dont see any reason why to change it..
Also on this 6 lovely months I´ve turned 3 windows and 1 debian user to gentoo. It´s just that portage probably is one of the best piece of software ever.... I tried to install to my friends Mandrake, because it was "the more user-friendly and easy to use"... NAH.. It could be easy to setup and use.... and that lasts for about a couple of months, then the distro comes old and new programs are required... Then the nightmare begins (you know what I mean, finding packages, finding dependencies, install, blah blah blah). It´s a pain in the ass for us Linux-savys Imagine how it feel for Linux-legos
LONG LIVE "EMERGE LIFE"
?
P.D.: Thanks!! |

I second that and say thank you myself
Every so often I spin up SuSE or Debian, but shudder quickly back to Gentoo
Nothing to touch it, thats for sure.
