I noticed the same thing yesterday and here's what freedb.org has to say:

About freedb.org The web-based search is (hopefully temporarily) down. It seems like more and more applications were automatically accessing the web-based search and apparently our server can't handle the number of requests anymore.
Since this made the whole website inaccessible, we had to take down the web-based search.
We will try to rebuild the search index (maybe there'S something wrong with it that slows down searches) and bring it back, but it might be gone forever.
You can discuss this at our forums if you like, but please don't send us e-mails asking questions about this issue!

this is strange, my friends running windows don't have these problems, it's running fine there...
edit: looks like this was wrong, they tested it with cd's which already were locally cached on their disks... |
