Hello, pardon this question of noob,

but I just installed Postfix on my Gentoo server (Stage1 install, yee haw.) Anyways, I can send email out from the system

Code:

/usr/sbin/sendmail myhomeemail@my domain.com
this is a test.
.

The mail come fine to my Yahoo account. But when I reply to the email I can look at my mail server as it tries to connect to my new postfix server and I see:

Code:

Fri 2005-02-18 17:03:33: [688:9057] Attempting SMTP connection to [207.158.xxx.xxx : 25]

Fri 2005-02-18 17:03:33: [688:9057] Waiting for socket connection...

Fri 2005-02-18 17:03:33: [688:9057] Socket connection established

Fri 2005-02-18 17:03:33: [688:9057] Waiting for protocol initiation...

Fri 2005-02-18 17:04:03: [688:9057] 30 second wait for protocol timeout exceeded.

Fri 2005-02-18 17:04:03: [688:9057] SMTP session abnormally terminated, 0 bytes transferred.

Fri 2005-02-18 17:04:03: ----------

I can't figure out why postfix is not geting the mail. I just need this system to receive email messages. I don't need virtual email accounts and the like. I have a custom app that will be receiving controll messages and staus via email from various automatd sources and need to have a local account on my postfix server receive it. I am working with a program that expects mail to be deliverd via a sendmail .forward file though I can't find any information on dealing with that in postfix either.

I also don't want to end up with an open relay or other security issue.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Robert
