I' have an acer aspire 1800 and have done a gentoo 2004.3 stage1. I have some problems with my video card : an ati x600 mobility... The drivers other than VESA in xorg don't works, so i've installed the ati-drivers and replace"vesa" by "fglrx" in xorg.conf. Xorg don't crash but i get a black screen... It doesn't matter for me to use vesa but in vesa my higher resolution is 1024*768 and so some pictures are misformed because on aspire 1800 its a wide screen 1440*900.

Can someone help me to use correctly atidrivers or the get a better resolution with vesa?

Thanks
(sorry for my english, i'm a french guy  )

Hello digrouz!

The new "ati-drivers" supports your graphic-card! If you need details, or a little HOWTO look there:

I am searching, with no success, if ati-drivers support mine.

Code:
mcfly root # cat /proc/pci | grep VGA
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY (rev 0).

I am using "ati" driver, but a lot of features of my videocard are not supported, like TVOut.

Any clue?

Sorry, that card isn't supported by the ATI driver - they tend to concentrate on support for newer cards. Anything less than a R8500 isn't supported.

Hi I am new to this forum, so first off all " hi everybody" .

I have the same problem. Acer Aspire 1800 with an X600 Raedon.
I haven't managed it yet, to get the framebuffer running nor the XServer.

The kernel is 2.4.26-gentoo-r9 with xorg 6.8.0 (will update to 6.8.2 in a minute :-) )

The video-statement in grub.config is

Quote:
video=vesafb:ywrap vga=0x317

This should be the 1024x768 framebuffer (with 64k colors). I don't need 3D acceleration.

@ digrouz:
Would please be so nice and paste your video- or vga-statement of your grub.config (or lilo.conf) ? Oh,
and the important parts of your xorg.conf would help me a lot too.
I tried the last three days to get these things running, I also searched a lot in the gentoo-forums and
google is my friend too. The FAQs couldn't help me either. So i am stucked right now ... HELP

THX

Problem solved .... realized that grub.conf don't likes linebreaks (typed on 640x480) and found the correct modeline for 1440x900... *prmpf*
