|
|
Hi. I've set up my computer to use the RAID controller integrated in my motherboard, with two 120gb drives in RAID0. This works great under Windows, but how would it work in linux? When booting the LiveCD, I had hde, hdf, hdg, and some more, with some not readable by fdisk, and two listed as 120Gb drives..only one with any partitions under. Is there any possibility to use the integrated RAID controller under linux, or should I just get another drive spesific for gentoo? |

does your have controller true hardware RAID or software RAID.
if it's software RAID, forget it.... |

The controller is a HighPoint Technologies HPT372, and is supposed to be supported by linux. I didnt get i working though, so I gave up and made it two disks again. Dont think I really need the RAID ability that much anyways.. |

Linus has given up on software assisted RAID, which your HPT372 is. That chipset is supported as an IDE controller though and you can use the linux MD RAID0 (which is a software RAID). I think all on motherboard RAID support has been removed from the 2.6 kernel.
You won't notice a performance difference using the MD RAID vs the HPT372 RAID. |
