Hi all!
I didn't really know where to post this, so it gets into this one.
I had to change my harddisk, so I copied my Gentoo-partitions to the new disk via "cp" mostly. I got everything to run pretty smoothly, except for one thing:
When I first tried to run gdm, it complained about "/var/lib/gdm" not belonging to gdm:gdm. ok, sure, I chowned that, as it belonged to root due to the cp, I remembered. So I also chowned my home-directory.
Now, when trying to login via gdm, I get an error like "session lastetd less than 30 seconds" and I get back to gdm. It fails on the Default Pre-Session in "/etc/gdm/Sessions" (?) where it executes "sessreg ...".
This also happens with a completely new blank account.
When using xdm or gnome-failsafe, it simply returns to the login after a while. The everything-log simply reports a "session opened; session closed".
Only logging in as root into gnome works fine. I compared the ownership of some files with a running second computer, but could not find any files I forgot to chown so far.
Any help would be really really appreciated. |

Code: | emerge rsync && emerge -u gdm |
with a bit of luck, you also have a newer version ! _________________ My favorite links this month:

Thanks for the idea, I tried it, but It didn't help.
I also recompiled xfree, no change either.
Did I mention the default Xsession works? I guess it's gnome-related, so I also recompiled gnome-session, without success.
An "emerge baselayout" has been done after copying, that was a hint I read before copying in another topic. I'm running out of ideas... |

Moved from Other Things Gentoo.
There are a few threads out there that mention the "session lasted less than XX seconds" problem. I'd see if I could dig one of them up... perhaps the answer is in one. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
