Bah, so heres the thing... i set up my box with the new 1.4rc2 cd, get sshd running...then goto work to install gentoo^^. Problem is it seem that now with the 1.4x series i have to reboot my computer after i fdisk my harddrive. LAME. im not at home. what do i do now? i dont recall having to do this with 1.2...can anyone suggest a fix or something so i dont have to go home and reboot my computer to get the install to recognize my new partitions?
thank in advance,

i installed a 1.4rc1 system a while ago, didn't have to reboot after fdisk.
i would just try to continue the installation, what do you've got to lose ? _________________ My favorite links this month:

/dev/hdd1 is the only partition it shows, but if i do an
`fdisk -l /dev/hdd` i get

Is this even possible ? if i remember correct you can have 4 primary partitions, and on each extended primary you can have 4 logical partitions, but you have 8 logical partions and only 1 extended.
I think that's your problem. _________________ My favorite links this month:

i wasnt aware of this.
i set up my other boxes like this.
here is a note posted on the gentoo install page
`Note: If fdisk or cfdisk instruct you to do so, please reboot to allow your system to detect the new partition configuration.`
the problem is documented, just wondering if there is a another way to do it. _________________ /me out |

If this is the case you have to restore your previous configuration, with only the one partition. You then have to make do with a swapfile instead of swap partition, and /boot without it's own partition, which isn't a big deal, really. As long as you return your partition table to how it was pre-ssh/fdisk you can get away without rebooting, otherwise methinks you're SOL |

Yes you have to reboot, unless fdisk or cfdisk tell you that they have re-read the partition table correctly. |
