Hi everyone,
I need some help with getting my wireless card working via ndiswrapper.
I'm running gentoo on my D800 and everything appears to be working fine. Now I am trying to get the wireless card working. I'm not sure if it is a 1300 or a 1400, but it is one of those two.
Anyway, I installed the ndiswrapper via the Gentoo emerge system and have downloaded the windows drivers from the link on the ndiswrapper page.
I'm running ndiswrapper 0.8 with kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r11.
I followed the instructions from the package but to no avail. Here are the instruction from the package install.
* Checking kernel module dependancies
*
* ndiswrapper requires .inf and .sys files from a Windows(tm) driver
* to function. Put these somewhere like /usr/lib/hotplug/drivers,
* run 'ndiswrapper -i /usr/lib/hotplug/drivers/foo.inf', edit
* /etc/modules.d/ndiswrapper to add the path to subdirectory in
* /etc/ndiswrapper, then run 'update-modules'.
I unzipped the exe from Dell and copied the entire contents to /usr/lib/hotplug/drivers.
I then ran ndiswrapper -i /usr/lib/hotplug/drivers/bcmwl5.inf
I've updated /etc/modules.d/ndiswrapper to contain:
# Options for ndiswrapper.
#
# Set this alias to some device. Usually wlan0 unless you've got more than one
# wireless card.
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
# loadndisdriver requires 4 parameters.
#
# Uncomment the following line after you've replaced "REPLACE"
# to the directory in /etc/ndiswrapper created by running with the path to the
# Windows(tm) .inf file:
#
# ndiswrapper -i somedriver.inf
#
install ndiswrapper /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ndiswrapper && { loadndisdriver /etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5 ; }
When I run modprobe ndiswrapper I get the following:
ndiswrapper version 0.8 loaded
ndiswrapper adding bcmwl5.sys
ndiswrapper: error log: C000138D, length: 1 (00000103)
ndiswrapper: Windows driver couldn't initialize the device
bcmwl5.sys: probe of 0000:02:03.0 failed with error -22
Please help me get the wireless card working.
Thanks,
revoohc |

I had a similar problem on my Dell Inspiron 8600. I forget exactly how I fixed it, though.
I know it involved using the Windows 98 version of the driver, which I may have gotten from another .exe file. I'm not on that computer right now, so if no one responds in the next four hours, I'll see if I still have the file lying around.
(I was going to set up sshd yesterday, but no, I figured I could leave it for the weekend. Would've been perfect to check from work if I had the file...) |

can you post the output of 'ndiswrapper -l'
Also you mention you are running 0.8 I currently have 0.12-r3 installed. Have you updated recently? _________________ Ian Entwistle |
