Hi
I bought a new laptop and I found from the net that I can run Linux on it and all the Hardware will run ok (Even ACPI)
Anyway I am sure I will install gentoo ( like my work desktop and home desktop) , the question is what do you think the best Desktop Env. for a laptop ? is it GNOME or KDE or else ?
I don want to make a war here ( I use Gnome in my work and KDE in my home) , all what I want is to recommend the best one you think for a laptop and why _________________ Gentoo is the best |

The best one is the one you like the best.
There is no definite answer to the question. It depends on what you favour and what you want the DE to do for you. I have several DE's installed but I always seems to come back to one that suites me best.

I am afraid to say that, but please use the search function of this forum (you question is "answered" several times here) . Maybe this helps:

BTW: In general it depends, but... Xfce4 is the best... _________________ Are YOU high - on bonsai? |

Honestly, i like both desktops. I use it both, but now i am keeping gnome. I like the simplicity and once you get use to it and configure it like you want is great. KDE is great too, but in my case i found a lot of options that i never use. Anyway is a matter of taste also, i use KDE for a long time i am sticking with gnome now, i also think of changing to a more light desktop like xfce but every time i try it the file manager remembers me why i am not using it. Gnome have a couple of plugins for laptops (battery, etc.) for the system tray, ia m sure KDE has it too.
Anyway, i think you are gone to get more confussed by asking this because the many different opinions there are. Search in the forums and find out.
Try it both, and then choose. |
