|
|
Hello all,
Yes i have searched, but not came up with much
I see that realone and realvideo-codecs are masked, and that surely is for a good reason - but, i need to play real audio and video - preferably in Firefox but any way would do...
Can somebody please tell me the best way to do this? |

Download RealPlayer 10 for Linux and follow the instructions. Works great for me. |

that doesn't really solve the problem, since all versions of realplayer are masked, because of a security issue. before downloading and installing it manually you can also unmask it in /etc/portage/package.unmask and install it via portage.
check bug #40469. _________________ please, feel free to correct my english. - por favor, corrige mi español. |

Ok, so unmasking what? realone? would be the best option, but it will open me up to a vulnerability right? |

yes. i didn't understand if realplayer 10 is affected, too, but it doesn't seem that stable, since it is also masked by the keyword "~x86". _________________ please, feel free to correct my english. - por favor, corrige mi español. |

Well, portage does not appear to be a valid option at the moment, it tells me to download a file and put it in the distfiles, but the download page has a file several versions newer than the one portage wants...
Hmm.. why isnt this stuff easy? heh... |

Yep, just add "reaL" to your USE flags and 'emerge -uD --newuse world'. |
