First of all: I've searched for this, all over the Internet as well as on here. If I didn't find the proper thread, please don't yell at me. I'm also a CUPS/Samba n00b, just so you know.
Okay, I have samba and CUPS setup. CUPS has a nice raw printer hooked-up for the Windows machine, and all prints well.
The only problem is this:
1) I print from Windows.
2) After a short delay, the printer attached to the server prints the document completely.
3) Then Windows tries to delete the print job and it can't. Repeated attempts to delete the job won't work. I have to reboot.
So I figure that this is really simple -- a permissions problem or something, but it's certainly beyond my ability to fix. Can anyone help? |

My other computers (non-Windows) can print to the printer fine, I should mention. It seems like the Windows box simply can't delete the job from its spool or understand when it has deleted the job. I dunno.
Perhaps this is a Windows problem, but I seem to recall fixing this last time with a server-side alteration. Dammit. Shoulda written that shit down. |

Jesus. I'm the only person ever to have this problem?
Must be worse than I thought. |

I have the exact same problem. It prints fine, but once in a while the job don't get deleted afterwards. When this clogs up to 5 jobs, windows wont print anymore. I still haven't found a solution. |

In my case, it wasn't Windows' fault (!!!) or Gentoo's (!). It was the fault of the driver. Well, it was Windows' fault too, really. The driver required "bidirectional printing" to be turned on, and I guess that just clicking that option on (and not rebooting) just wasn't enough. Anyway, I managed to fix what was wrong here.
Your case sounds like it's pretty random, though. It's the random shit that's the hardest to troubleshoot. |
