Sono riuscito tra mille fatiche ad installare 2004.3 con multilib e ntpl ma riscontro diversi problemi nell'emerge di determinate applicazioni.
x11-libs/gtk+-2.6.2 mi dava errore con pango e xft, ho dovuto inserire in /etc/profile:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/usr/X11R6/lib64/pkgconfig/"
affinchè tutto funziuonasse.
Problema simile con idesk preso da bugs.gentoo.org:

E idesk funzionava perfettamente nella precedente installazione di gentoo sulla stessa macchina ma senza FLAGS nptl e nptlonly attivate.
Idee ?
Ma forse ho sbagliato qualcosa, possibile che occorra intervenire manualmente in ogni installazione !!!!!
Allora mi conviene togliere immediatamente le nptl ....

Non ho nemmeno il comando locate ..... dove lo prendo ...  |

Leggendo alcuni post mi sembra che l'uso di nptlonly non sia consigliato, io proverei a rimuovere quella USE.

Allora in definitiva se abiliti nptl gento compila 2 versioni di glibc una con pthreads e una con nptl in questa maniera i software che possono dare problemi con nptl possono funzionare tranquillamente. Se abiliti nptlonly viene compilata una sola versione di glibc, però rischi di avere problemi di compatibilità come nel tuo caso con alcuni software, cosa che è moooolto seccante 
In definitiva nptl=ok nptlonly=no eh eh eh  |
