Hi,

I am trying to setup a wlan but there's no wlan0 to be found. My kernel is 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 with all the necessary options selected. My baselayout is 1.9.4-r6.

Ndiswrapper loads the windows driver correctly and recognizes the hardware. It also writes to modeprobe.conf that 'alias wlan0 ndiswrapper'. modprobe ndiswrapper says: FATAL: module ndiswrapper not found

Lspci -v lists the controller as:

0000:02:00.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DWL-510 2.4GHz Wireless PCI Adapter (rev 20)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc DWL-510 2.4GHz Wireless PCI Adapter
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 9
I/O ports at 4400 [disabled]
Memory at 1f800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=512]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

I´ve checked the HOWTOS and Documentation Tips&Tricks. Any help appreciated.

Have you compiled the ndiswrapper module against your current kernel?

Also, have you rebooted the computer since the compile? I could not get the last couple ndiswrappers to work for me unless I rebooted after the compile...

This was the case. I hadn´t realized that you have to emerge -C ndiswrapper AND emerge ndiswrapper to get the proper kernel module.

Now iwconfig wlan0 shows the little bugger allright. Finally, the day when Windows will be nuked from my laptop is here.:P
