Recently, a maxtor drive failed again (3rd one this year). I want to run the maxtor diagnostics tool, but last month, I removed windows from my system. Unfortunately, the Maxtor tool can only be written to a floppy disk from Windows.
Can anyone do me and other people a favor:
write a Maxtor Diagnostics disk and make an image from it. That way, I can use 'dd' to create the disk, instead of going through the hastle of installing an illegal Windows just for this maxtor floppy... |

I've got a Windows system -- a notebook -- but it doesn't have a floppy drive. If there's a Maxtor program I can download to create a CD that would help you, I could put an image of the CD online for you...

Not copy the files off - he wants a direct image rip. Use dd if=/dev/fd0 of=~/maxtor_floppy.img, man dd for more info. _________________ screenshots

So you are saying that it's illegal for me to use the maxtor program on my drives? It's illegal to get an error code for a drive that shouldn't die on me in the first place.
I would say it's a disgrace maxtor only accepts RMA orders for drives that have been checked with a windows-only utility. I have a right to use this utility: I bought a maxtor drive. Now someone can't use drive checking utilities anymore because they don't have a valid windows license?
@ rezza: that's indeed what I wanted. Personally, I don't need it anymore. I asked a friend at school to make me a floppy. But still, I think it would be helpful towards the community to post such an image online. |

Thanks a lot, pjp! I never noticed the tool on their site. Also, thank you srlinuxx, I'll save the image on my hard drive when I need it a second time. |
