Hi,

emerging shfs fails with the following error. I have found a bug that describes the same problem - but no solution :( https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81194

The other guy also has a AMD64 system. So maybe this is the problem...

Thanks for your help.

Code:

emerge shfs

You could try something that was recommended in one of the comments in that bug: unmask and use net-fs/shfs-0.35-r1.

aaaargh. Thanks for your post - you opened my eyes ;)

But version 0.35-r1 fails also:

Hi Shake, did you solve your problem since your last post?

I am having the same problem. 2 things I did that _may_ be related to this:
1- emerge --prune (I had to recompile some stuff that this command removed)
2- changed kernel from 2.6.8 to 2.6.10

I still have the module for my 2.6.8 kernel but I can no longer compile shfs. The version I am trying to install is 0.35-r1.
Did you do one of these 2 actions lately ? (or anything else you don't usually do and that is a frequent source of problems)

Hi I "solved" my problem. In fact, it is a work-around:
Code:

# cd /var/tmp/portage/shfs-0.35-r1/work/shfs-0.35/shfs
# make
# make install
# modules-update

I still don't know why emerge didn't work, but it compiled and it's now working.

Hope it can help someone else too.

I did not resolv the problem... Sill working with nfs here...
And yes - I changed to kernel 2.6.10 some days ago...

did you try to go to the working directory in /var/tmp/portage/ (the place where emerge unpack tarballs and build them) to try to build it manually ?

Should we write bug report?

shfs-0.31-r1 doesn't compile well even on x86 !!!

It would be called unstable and 0.35-r1 stable one...

Neither shfs-0.31 or shfs-0.35-rc1 compiles here.

It's on bugs.gentoo.org:

A related bug which I found while trying to merge shfs since moving to 2005.0:

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87278

I don't think this is a bug with shfs itself, but a bug with the glibc multilib header setup used with 2005.0 and glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1

On the other hand, I haven't (yet) encountered anything else which causes the above mentioned bug (haven't really gone out of my way to find anything either, though)

i get this error and i use the 2.6.11 kernel and the shfs version 0.35 because 0.35-r1 doesn't run fine (always crashes the connection

but there is a workaround for 0.35 and 0.35-r1.... it seems that it crashes when compiling the 2.4 shfs module (don't know why it compilies the 2.4 module, but who cares ......:( )

go to your Portage dir
mine is /tmp

do a

cd /tmp/portage/shfs-0.35/work/shfs-0.35/shfs/Linux-2.6/
and a
make && make install && modules-update && modprobe shfs

thats it, you have the shfs kernel module :)

have a nice day :)

Yep, manual compiling of shfs module is easy, but shfsmount is another thing ;(
