java apps display improperly

I have the blackdown java installed on my system, but Ive noticed that anytime I run a java app, like argouml or limewire, all of the widgets (textboxes, menu items, buttons, etc) are displayed quite larger than normal. But, after downloading and unpacking sun's jdk, and running:

/opt/jdk1.5.0_01/bin/java -jar /path/to/jarfile

it displays normal size. The problem is, typing java -jar at the commandline doesnt fix the problem, and I have to give it an explict path every time. I even used java-config to try and change the whole system thing over to the 1.5 jdk, but apps still display incorrectly. Any ideas?

Why not use portage? It has the Sun JDK in it.

(1.5 is masked, if you really need the latest version unmask it).
