Hi
I have a disk that died recently
I got a new one and rebuild the system -> Time for change anyway
I was able to recover most of the data from the deader by simply mounting the partitions and copying the files -> few hundred files were lost but none important ones.
One vfat partition wouldn't mount though.
I used dd_rescue to make the image of the partition - it reported some errors at the beginning of the record.
Than i tried to mount the image (using -o loop) but mount reported 'bad superblock'
I am planning to run foremost on the image to attempt recovery of some files (like mp3s jpegs etc) -anyone used this with any luck?
But my question is: Do you know of any tools/methods to 'patch up' a damaged vfat partitions?
Is there any way of running dd_rescue such that mounting the image would be more probable?
thanks,
