Well...just wanted to tell everyone that Enlightenment 16.8 (well...actually something like 16.7.9999) is very very nice!! It has support for xcompmgr (it seems to have its own compositemanager which is much faster than the xcompmgr)

You may turn it on and off as you wish!!!

Everything is fast, rock solid...and just perfect....well...this CVS-release actually won me back!!!

are there any nice themes coming up for this release??

Huh? Did you get e-16.8 by cvs? Cause I can just see 16.7.2 in portage...

/usr/portage/x11-wm/enlightenment/enlightenment-0.16.9999.ebuild
;)
masked as -* , cause it's live CVS. so you have to put that in package.keywords:
x11-wm/enlightenment -*

well i already fell in love with e17, it's meanwhile quite good usable. enough to be my all-day-wm :P

i haven checked out e16.8 for some weeks, but i think the "good old" themes still work, at least it's worth a try to check it out:
http://www.themedepot.org/showarea.php4?area=15
;) :P

btw: the e17 themes there are for "the first try" of e17, not usable in any way with current version

cheers!

I'm also already using e17, it's quite stable and looks great. But I'll check out e16.8, too. Thanks gimpel, or on german: Danke, Gimpel! :D

Btw, have you created the icons by yourself or have you downloaded a package somewhere? It's hard to make new icons for me because e_util_eapp_edit regulary crashes on changing directories.

ein münchner!! fein!! (engl.: a guy from munich!! cool! :P :) )

yeah e_utils_eapp_edit crashes with subdirs and so on, so put all icons (png's whatever) in a folder in your homedir. the editor takes your homedir as starting dir.
i have all my icon-images in ~/icons, no subdir there
the editor can handle that (1 subdir without crashing :P).
you can also try my package as a base (perhaps some of them fit your needs/whishes) from:
http://lude.net/edocs/files/applications-all.tar.bz2 (meanwhile i created some more but..) ;)

greets & servus!

I really liked 16.8 but I had to dump it due to bugs and go back to OpenBox. Its a real shame as it offers more functionality than the standard *box with more eyecandy with the same speed. Bugs I had? Mouse scrolling would pause frequently in apps and the alt-tab sometimes required 2 taps to start cycling windows. Not much but enough to make me switch back.

same here till about.. hm ..2 weeks ago! it really was quite unusable compared to e17 :P
but yesterday and the last 3 days kwo & co have been very busy and did a lot of fixes! seems like it's going to get released soon. so it's worth trying it again now.

Btw, is there any way to change the menu-mouse buttons? I mean can I change the mouse-buttons where which menu should appear? For example, since I was a fluxbox user a long time, I would like to open the apps-menu with a right-click instead of a left-click.

same here. i eventually found the problem to be with sloppy focus. switching to normal click-focus fixed everything.

Let's hope not. :) I know they take their sweet time testing out DR17 and they will release it as a stable version whenever they want to but I hope "whenever they want to" is not too far in the near future! Otherwise, you and I will be on wheelchairs then. Hey at least we can roll with the music...

I think I'll be sticking with 0.16.6 for a long while (perhaps update to a later version of 0.16, eventually).
I will definitely try E17, but I won't use it as my main GUI.

It's too much eye candy, in my mind (which isn't a bad thing, it's just that I prefer plain and simple. WindowManager-simple).
