Hi,

I try to add "ide=nomda" at booting to prevent my machine from hanging at the partition check because of a problem with the ali driver. It completly ignore it and hang at the same place.

This is what I type at boot screen: gentoo ide=nodma

Also, when I tried to disable acpi (with gentoo acpi=no), gentoo still boot with acpi, completly bypassing the command I give to it.

Is kernel boot options discarded when booting with the LiveCD?

Or I made a typo, if so how to add that parameter to the kernel?

P.S.: I'm using a Compaq Presario 900US

I'm new to this gentoo thing...
but I found an answer.

We're both using the same basic configuration (i have the hp ze4145).

I was looking at another post on here and saw that the guy used:
acpi=off
instead of
acpi=no

i was having a similar problem as you, but I tried the acpi=off and it worked!

hope that helps!

Ok, they should change it in the help on cd.

But, my main problem is with "ide=nodma" because without it, impossible to boot. That's a problem I have with any distribution that use kernel => 2.4.19, because of a change in ali ide driver.

I just tried 1.2 iso: it accept "ide=nodma" but completly ignore "nousb" and "noauto" :( , so back to square one, since I need "nousb" and "ide=nodma" at minimum.

Why Gentoo doen't accept the same kernel boot option as any other linux distributions? :? Or I'm missing something?
