My CPUfan is constantly spinning >3000 rpm (only in lnx). Seems I haven't got the right kernel config. I just installed a new mainboard, and after that, it doesn't seem to work anymore. I don't have the old config.
I've included the ACPI into the kernel, tried w/o CPU freq. scalng functions.
No apm is configured. acpid is installed and running.
Thankful for any suggestions or tips

Hi!
I don't think it's a frequency scaling issue. Here is my ACPI config:
Code:

  [*] ACPI Support
      [ ]   Sleep States (EXPERIMENTAL)
      <*>   AC Adapter
      <*>   Battery
      <*>   Button
      <M>   Video
      <*>   Fan
      <*>   Processor
      <*>   Thermal Zone

My fan works nicely with this configuration.

Thanks for replying...I dont think so neither. but I¨ve really tried those acpi settings.. (except the battery, AC and video modules since im using a stationary box without integrated videocard) Maybe there no problem with the config, but when I use MSI's CoreCenter or FuzzyLogic in Windows, it seems like a new "driver" is loaded and the fan gets alot smarter, decreasing its rpm etc. I'll keep messin' with it. Thanks

This is just a long shot, but anyway....

... have you tried the ACPI P-states CPUfreq driver? It can vary both frequency and voltage of the CPU (whereas other CPUfreq drivers vary only the frequency). Enabling it on my laptop massively cutted down spin-up time of the main fan.
