With Tyan Thunder K8S Pro. Bios sees two hard drives. I seen no sign of the drives in /proc or in /dev or /dev/scsi.. Messages from the boot contain
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xffa0-0xffa7, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:pio
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xffa8-0xffaf, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
I have read this
"You will have to load the kernel module tg3 (insmod tg3.ko) (from /mnt/cdrom/zisofs/lib/modules/2.6.7-gentoo-r11-smp) to enable ethernet and the kernel modules mptbase, mptscsih, isense (in that order) to be able to access the harddrive. "
but "modprobe isense" doesn't find anything, although all other things suggested work.
HELP, and Thanks,

Just discovered that a 386 boot disk shows sda and sdb. Created a boot partition on both drives, and then tried the amd64 cd again. The drives still don't show up. It is not going to do me much good to get these drives partitioned if the amd64 disk can't later write data to them.
Any ideas? Thanks,

Thanks to tarus on the AMD64 forum I can now see the drives. It was "modprobe sata_sil" that did the trick in this case. I am a little concerned as the place I found this indicates that this module is a little iffy. Many thanks to Taurus.
