Yes, I want the ebuilds too! :)

Strange thing is that www.kde.org does not have a single word about the release of kde 3.4-rc1, but dot.kde.org refuses to respond.

EDIT: I noticed a bunch of xdeltas. It would be good is the ebuilds downloaded those instead of the full tarballs (as many people have 3.4 beta2 tarballs fetched).

yes, what about some ebuild for that? I'd like to update my "old" kde beta2 to clean out some bugs ;)

Now this is going to be interesting, seeing the first time how the split ebuilds behave in an update procedure

Well, I hope the devs will take care of the full builds first but I think they will update the splitted builds first....
I'm also considering to switch to the split ebuilds...
this has SOME advantages.... I'll have a look :)

cheers

Fine. Now that I have set the kxdeltas use flag after installing 3.4_beta2 if I want to reemerge a package of it it downloads version 3.3.90 of it. Is this a higher or lower version of 3.3.92 ?
EDIT: Maybe I should report this as a bug?

Hopefully we'll get ebuilds for amd64 as well. Ive been wanting to try out KDE for a long while know, but I dont want to spend all day building the monolithic ebuilds :o

Two quick questions:
1) If I emerge kde 3.4_rc1 will it be installed in /usr/kde/3.4? When the new final version of kde is out do I have to unemerge kde 3.4_rc1 or its files will be overwritten by the new and stable kde?

2) What is kdexdeltas?

Thank you

I had problems with the xdeltas last time I tried them for beta1 I think but that problem was resolved, I don't remember what it was. If it's pulling down "extra" packages then it's xdelta'n off of the original set and assumes you should have that already. I know if you digest one of the ebuilds with abeni it pulls down all the xdeltas and an older version of what you're digesting so it might do this when using the xdelta flag.

Interesting stats for kdelibs here.
Since Oct 19, 2003..
Code:

 # genlop -i kdelibs
 * kde-base/kdelibs

   Total builds: 46
Global build time: 2 days, 1 hour, 40 minutes and 35 seconds.
Average merge time: 1 hour, 4 minutes and 47 seconds.

I guess I've spent "days" compiling kdelibs so it's probably weeks for everything. ;)

Kdelibs is almost finished and the kde mirror is fast this morning. I was sort of surprised to see arts and kdelibs pop up on the update list this morning, I figured it was another case of having to mask the new ebuilds for a few days but quick check of the unstable directory @ ftp.kde.org sort of shocked me. I guess they weren't kidding when they said in the release schedule for rc1 that "This release will happen very quickly...". :)

From the kdelibs Changelog..
Quote:

26 Feb 2005; Dan Armak <danarmak@gentoo.org>
+files/kdelibs-3.4.0_beta2-export-kio-symbols.diff,
+kdelibs-3.4.0_rc1.ebuild:
kdelibs 3.4.0_rc1. Note that this is still not released (i.e. no tarballs
are available to the general public).

Kget is just finishing up fetching everything here but I doubt that it's a mistake the packages are on the kde mirrors.

Has anyone else had experience with quanta in beta2 crashing whenever it uses the VPL editor?

It's getting annoying, theres an open bug in the kde bugzilla but its still listed as unconfirmed.

It will install in /usr/kde/3.4, like the beta2 (and I think beta1, too) already did. So, if 3.4.0-final is out, rc1 will be overwritten by the final.

Now I have added the kdexdeltas use flag in my make.conf and downloaded the diffs manually to /usr/portage/distfiles but when I emerge arts and kdelibs xdelta is not used. Is it disabled ?
emerge -upv kdelibs gives me the following
Code:

[ebuild     U ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.0_rc1 [3.4.0_beta2] +alsa +arts +cups -debug +doc -jpeg2k +kdeenablefinal* -kerberos -openexr +spell +ssl +tiff +xinerama 16,464 kB

Bye, Valentin.

Hmm, this does not work here. What do I need to do? Do I need any extra tool for this?

Apparently they didn't add xdeltas support to the rc1 (see the use flages in emerge -av kdelibs)

I absolutely don't know why

The unsplit ebuilds never had the kdexdelta flag, that's why you don't see it with arts and kdelibs because they aren't split.

Just saw this in akregator.
http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/view/897

I guess zope died on the dot/wiki server so that's why there's wasn't a dot news story.

Release announcement here.
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-announce&m=110943281419778&w=2

I have kdebase-meta emerging after a big krename job in my overlay and lots and lots of digesting with abeni. I was doing a world but some parts of kdepim wouldn't start compiling, complained about something missing from the kde-meta.eclass.

*edit remeber to finish sentences before starting the next. ;)
