BTW, wasn't KDE planning on releasing their packages separately? Or was this a Gentoo idea? I like it a lot! Just because I want kmail doesn't mean I want Kooka etc. |

KDE split ebuilds was gentoo idea. This depends on a distro (mandrake offered many KDE packages (like kate, kooka, kmail) separately long ago). _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

a) the gentoo portage aleady contains split ebuilds for KDE 3.4rc1.
b) bad example, kooka will not be installed anyway, except you have "scanner" in your USEflags |

Any idea how to get kde-i18n 3.4-rc1 installed?
There is no ebuild for it, so I copied beta2 and made my own.
It fails however saying that it needs unsermake, rather than make.
I emerged unsermake, and tried
Code: | export UNSERMAKE="/usr/kde/unsermake/unsermake" |
but still no go.. any ideas?

YES - 3.4 got released, finally!
hopefully the bugs are ironed out, ah well, we will see.
i was wondering yesterday at kde.org, because the info was missing about rc1. now we know why
though.. why do they delete the old info? hmm..
i would have expected:
200502xx - rc1 candidate
20050316 - 3.4 released |

yes, but If you are intersted in: The problem was not the unsermake thing. It was something wrong with the i18n tar ball of rc1 (makefiles were missing or something). So I used a snapshot tar ball from the kde ftp. And whith that one, it worked without problems and unsermake.
Good luck with kde 3.4
PS: Using a snaphot is a really nice thing. Especially if you want update the translations or so. _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

I've installed 3.4.0 yesterday. It runs smoother, some nasty bugs (like kopete crash on logout) are gone, but visually it's not too different from rc1 (stability seems improved - no segfault so far). I recommend to everyone running rc1 to upgrade. _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll
