|
|
Now and again I accidentally hit ctrl-s while in vim for example. Simply because I usually use nedit for editing files so it comes natually to press ctrl-s before even thinking. However, this causes a problem since konsole then freezes and no matter what I try I cannot get it to unfreeze. Maybe this isn't an issue with konsole, but with the actual shell? Does anyone know if this is a feature (and unfreezing is possible) or whether it's a bug? I find it difficult to believe it's a bug since I remember having this issue way back in kde 1.
Does anyone have a solution?

Seems to be an issue with the shell, freezes my Eterm too. Chances are it's a hotkey, and there's another hotkey to cancel it and unfreeze. Dunno what it would be though, tried emacs ctrl-g and that didn't work. |

It's easy to check yourself, just run an xterm. |

CTRL-S per default in Linux is the Scroll Lock combo. Per default, CTRL-Q is the Scroll unlock function.
So, it is a feature.

as sipi said, its the default behaviuor for a Terminal. Most Terminals have an option to turn it off. |

This behavior is configurable: Settings::Configure Konsole::Use Ctrl+S/Ctrl+Q flow control. _________________ Your argument is invalid. |

By the way, why not just Scroll Lock? I have a KVM switch but I can tell it to use CTRL x2. Is it because scroll lock is always so damn far away? |

Since in the old days, Unix machines had no Scroll Lock key.
Moreover, they had almost nothing special keys, just characters and CTRL. So, every function needed a special combo with normal characters + with the few control keys.
(E.g. there were no cursor keys, page up, etc, so these functions was coded with CTRL+... keys, too.)
