So I decided to take the afternoon to finally fix / setup some things...
I got a good bit of stuff done with the help of the forum archives; but I couldn't get this working.
I have an internal USB Media reader, it reads CompactFlash, MMC, SD, SmartMedia, MediaStick, and MicroDrive... I have SD cards and CF cards.
I've setup SCSI support and can get SDA to show up... if I try to mount SDA it fails, and dmesg contains this:

... and then SDA1 shows up, which I can use to mount my CF cards, no problem:

My question is: how can I get SDA1 to show up without first making it error out on mounting SDA?
and
I can't find a way to mount my SD cards. nor could I find any pertinent information in the forum archives...

From what I can gather, the Linux kernel does not like having empty card adaptors attached. I have an external adaptor, and if I put it in empty, or remove the card from it before I unplug it from the computer, I always have problems, one of which is that the usb-storage system stops working altogether, and the other is that I cannot do a clean shutdown because my harddrives don't unmount properly.
Sorry, this is not what you want to hear, is it?

Well, I don't have any problems, mounting and unmounting the CF card after the first fail on SDA, I can do it as root or my regular user as much as I want and it works... and I can't find any evidence of errors when shutting down...
I just can't seem to get a device name for the SD reader.
