Those little drive applets

What are those little HDD applets that look like KDE (and other desktops?) icons. Noob distros and knoppix have them if you doubleclick it'll mount the drive for you. Kinda like on a mac. i'll post a screenshot next time i boot knoppix if nobody knows wtf i'm takling about.

Right Click on desktop, configure desktop, behavior, display devices on desktop.

You can setup it up much more flexibly than MacOS

While it does work, it has a few issues. First, it's automatically assigned a name based on your fstab entry, which if you're using devfs (like we are) can be somewhat long and ugly. Secondly, automounting doesn't really work. You can't just stick in a pendrive or zip disc and "poof" have it appear on your desktop. CDs do, if I recall correctly.

I've had the best luck using the kdiskfree applet in kicker; it lets you click on an fstab entry to mount it and open a konq window.
