well i just installed 1.4rc2 and everything went great. i went with a 2.5.53 kernel just for fun.

only 2 small snags.

1. my secondary hard drive, it has that other os on it (hint: fat partition). i have it mounted at startup via fstab, but users cannot access it. i had it seutp before and everyone could read it but only root could write. i didnt do anything different so im not sure whats wrong. maybe im not in the right group? can someone point me to a guide or thread maybe (my searches turned up zilch) that explains some options. also while im at it id like to let users in X group change the files. i thought it would be as simple as chown'ing the mount point before mounting but that was a no go.

2. nvidia drivers + 2.5.53 are a no go. im assuming the patch just doesnt support this new version (although its probably up a few more notches since ive installed) but id like to just double check.

thanks

SEARCH THE FORUMS 1st . Took me 5 seconds entering "access AND windows AND partition". Gives no less than TWO screens of results.

Dont be lazy! :evil:

no idea on #2, but i'll take a go on #1

try a man mount, and look under fat options. i think the options you're concerned with would be uid/gid (set owner and group) and umask/fmask/dmask (set permissions; this is the mask, so put the permissions you DON'T want to allow).

i'd think the options (in fstab) would be something like...
Code:
gid=fatusers,umask=002,dmask=002
and then make a fatusers group and put some users inside.

Moved from Installing Gentoo.

For 1, see UN4: mounting Windows partitions (FAT,NTFS) in the FAQ Forum.
