Recently I set up a PDC with SMB samba-3.0.9-r1. everything seems going well. BUt now I still encounter few problems, pls help me, 3x.
1. client computer with XP professional OS successfully joined the SMB PDC. But now the problem is the user can not change passwd from windows.

And I googled the solutions, I got some threads, which said this.
Quote: | Just an update. After reading others posts, I uninstalled Microsoft
Cumulative Update MS04-012 (KB828741). Sure enough this fixed the
problem. Hope Samba folks can correct this in Samba 3.0.3 so we don't
have to uninstall this update on all computers.

But I think this problem should solved? isn't it? What shoud I do to solve this problems?
2. does samba 3.X wholely supports XP group policy? I just still use ntconfig.pol to restrict user, for I can not find some useful doc. Can you give me some useful hints. |

Did you ever get a solution to this problem? I'm currently facing the same issue and I'm not finding much on the web other than what you found about the Windows Update which was fixed with Samba 3.0.4. Although my situation is a bit more quirky as my users don't actually log into the domain. I'm just using the domain to simplify user management across multiple file servers in the office at the moment.
What I would like to do is issue all my users a random password and have them change it when they first access a share. Even if I can get around this "permission to chagne your password" issue I'm starting to think that in order to do this I'll also need these users actually logging into the domain itself. Which will be very difficult to roll out to our remote vpn users since I can't give them the Domain Admin account info to allow them to add their machine to the domain. I'm also trying to set this up in phases so that there isn't much resistance with the users.
Thanks,
David |
