Did anyone manage to ge sound via spdif with (kernel) alsa on a nforce4 mobo? I'm using 2.6.9-gentoo-r14 kernel.

I believe you have to use a >=2.6.10 kernel for nforce4 to work properly. But sound is on a different chip - do you know which? (hint: lspci | grep audio)

no, sound is integrated in the nforce4 chipset. snd_i810_audio is used.

In the meantime i got sound working...I'm using alsa-driver 1.0.8 (the external packages from http://www.alsa-project.org/) with the snd_intel8x0 module. Perhaps the internal Alsa of a newer Kernel (2.6.11) would work too
