I have two optical drives, /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd (hdc is a DVD burner, hdd is a DVD-ROM/CDRW)
Every once in a while, both are in /dev. Usually though, I do not have a hdc.
Why does hdc seem to disappear? This is my master drive and I need it to backup data. |

Do you use udev? If so, what happens when you run
as root, when hdc is missing? |

I had the same problem since 2 say's. A "modprobe ide-cd" solved it, so that i wrote "ide-cd" in my /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel.2.6.
Thanks a lot. |
