i emerge gxine in the most standart way, on a generaly healthy system with sane cflags. but if I start it up, it ony shows its splash screen, and freeze. kill-9 is the only way out.
when I lauch it from a terminal, here are the error messages displayed:
Code: | falcon@pandora falcon $ gxine
server: trying to connect to already running instance of gxine (/home/falcon/.gxine/socket)...
connect: Connection refused
server: socket '/home/falcon/.gxine/socket' created
libgnomevfs.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. |
what's wrong? |

Looks like it's linked to a shared library that doesn't exist anymore. Try re-emergeing xine-lib and gxine, that might fix it... _________________ Free software, free society. |

tried to rebuild gxine, xine-lib, and gnome-vfs (because of the error message sugesstion it may have some something to do with it).
doesn't make a difference |

I gave a try to the ~x86 version of gxine. It crashes instead of freezing. Not really sure that it is an improvement.
For the ~x86 version, I won't complain. It is masked, so that's not surprising.
But for the non masked one, I hope it is an error on my side. I'll check if there are older builds, that might work. In the meanwhile, if anyone has an idea, always welcome. |

Create a symlink named /usr/lib/libgnomevfs.so.0 pointing to your current version of libgnomevfs.so (in my case it's /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so.0.800.3). This solves your problem with the stable version of gxine. The ~x86 version crashes with a segfault on my system... |

I'll try that simlink solution in a minute. but I think it is a bit dirty. Is there a bug posted about this? I don't really know how to use bugzilla, either for searching or posting a new bug. If you know how this work, I think it may be a good idea to post that bug. Otherwise i'll look for it. |

You need that symlink because some update of gnome-vfs has moved libgnomevfs.so.0, but the new file seems to have an unchanged API. So this is imho a compatiblity bug in gnome-vfs, not a bug in gxine... |

whose ever bug it is, I'd rather see it fixed. Wether the mistakes comes from gnome, gxine, or the ebuild maintainer, someone sould handled this. Don't you think so? |

I tried to simlink the lib. So, I don't have that "lib not found" error, but it still freezes on startup. without error message, this time. rebuilding it makes no difference. |
