|
|
Hey everyone, im new to the forum and gentoo. I've got gentoo on my system now after numerus hours of working on it. During the live cd process i needed to "MODPROBE SK98LIN" and the do a "net-setup eth0" to get it working. Now that i have grub set up and i boot it up, i don't have a internet connection anymore. I did emerge dhcpcd when i was on live cd tho. and i have set iface__eth0="dhcp" so i really have no idea what to do right now.

SLCGrad2k,
When you made your kernel, you need to include the option sk98lin for your network card.
Doesshow an eth0?
If so, the driver is installed and needs to be configured. Run Code: | /etc/init.d/net.eth0 restart | to do that.
If eth0 is missing, try .
Doesshow eth0 now?
Start it as above. All this can be automated - post your findings and any error messages. _________________ Regards,

You can also add in kernel support in the kernel config under device drivers -> network -> ethernet 1000 -> SysKonnect SK-98xx support. _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

Ok, now the thing is i used genkernel to compile my system... do i have to modprobe everytime i reboot the system then? oh and i also did rc-update add net.eth0 default.

If your using genkernel it should be loaded automagically, however you might be able to add sk98lin to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 (or 2.4) to have it loaded automatically at boot. I've never used genkernel/hotplugging, so I don't know if modules can be loaded that way when hotplugging is used. You can also run genkernel with the --menuconfig flag to allow you to compile support for the network card into the kernel. _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

If your /etc/conf.d/net reads iface_eth0="dhcpcd" and you have run rc-update add net.eth0 default, then that will take care of bringing eth0 up, provided you have proper hardware support. (a.k.a. having the sk98lin module loaded at boot) _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

So anyways I tried those instructions last night. Still doesn't work... kind wierd... actually. seems like it just doensn't want to load.. I've tried to rc-update add net.eth0 default and all it states is that it is already set.. |

Did you build support into the kernel? Or did you add the module to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kenel-2.6? If you did the latter could you post the output of lsmod, and either way could you post the output of lspci | grep Ethernet (if you have it, if not the output of cat /proc/pci | grep Ethernet) and ifconfig eth0 (you have it). _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

yeah i put sk98lin in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
i'll try the rest a lunch today when i go home see if it works... When i boot it just gets netmount failed to load as well on boot it states eth0 load via DHCP [!!]
then fail to netmount..
And I thought GRUB was the hardest to work with... lol. |
