I have a brand new Gentoo install, trying to get a basic LAMP setup going for my website. I use Dreamweaver to code/upload it, and want to use the SFTP ability to manage the files. When I login with FileZilla or PuTTY it works fine, but Dreamweaver tells me the username or password is incorrect. I've checked it about a billion times and know it is correct. Does anyone know if Dreamweaver uses something a little different that I need to reconfigure for? |

Ok, thanks, that fixed it. Now I'm wondering if allowing password authentication has any security-related side-effects I should know about? |

I don't know the specific differences between UsePAM and PasswordAuthentation from a security stand point, I tend to disable both and just use PKA. Dreamweaver can't handle PKA, you might be able to use PuTTY and create a tunnel for it. This would be more secure then just a password for access, if there are other users on the system it may inconvenience them. Unfortunately that doesn't allow you to just use Dreamweaver to access it directly. |
