Okay, sorry for the awkward topic name, but the problem I am having is a wierd one.

Basically, I have a server at home and a desktop at school (two different places). I am able to log into the server just fine using ssh, but no other services are able to connect, e.g. they all time out. I have tested apache2, gkrellm, and webmin, all with the same results: connection times out. This is not just a firewall issue, as attempting lynx localhost returns nothing either. I am using default configuration files for apache, webmin and gkrellm. It seems like there is some simple thing that I am doing wrong, but would anyone care to enlighten me as to what it is?

yes, but I do not think that is the problem. If it were simply a firewall, why would it block port 8080 as well? I believe my ISP blocks ports 25 and 80, but everything else should be fine right? Also, I have accessed this computer over port 8080 before (a reformat), so I think it is something new, maybe having to do with hardened.

EDIT: Okay, its definately only port 22 that works, plus I am having that ssh forwarding problem (e.g. -L 8080:localhost:8080 gives a big fat "channel 2: open failed" when trying to forward ports). aside from a complete emerge -e system, what else can I do?

Nevermind, I was being stupid. I had a bad DMZ configuration on my router and didn't know it. Move along, nothing to see here:oops:
