Seen a few other people's posts, but no one had a resolution... Anyone have any ideas here?
I have a Gigafast WF721-AEX pcmcia 802.11b card.
I have been trying to get it to run on gentoo.
Here is some information you might find helpful, and then I'll go into what I've tried, and the results:
lspci:
Code: | Ethernet Controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8180L 802.11b MAC (rev 20) |
I've tried using ndiswrapper using two different WinXP drivers. 173 from Realteks website (http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?keyword=8180), and the WinXP driver from Gigafast (http://www.gigafast.com/Support/WF721Drivers.htm)
The results were:
I was able to get the card to plug in, and have the red (searching) light turn on. I could scan frequencies and see local 802.11b access points using "iwlist wlan0 scan". However, "dhcpcd wlan0" would hang forever and eventually just die out (not connecting).
I tried using the gentoo package made for this (rtl8180). I am able to get the driver to load up and accept the card. The blinking red light doesn't come on until I do a "ifconfig wlan0 up", opposed to being on almost all the time using ndiswrapper. However, when scanning, it only sees one accesspoint (there are three listed when scanning with ndiswrapper). dhcpcd wlan0 still hangs for a long time, eventually drops out, turning off the red light, and doing what looks like a "ifconfig wlan0 down", because "ifconfig" no longer lists wlan0.
Past that, I don't know what other info to give, or where to go...
Wireless works fine in WindowsXP. Range of the accesspoint isn't a problem. Any ideas? |

I am having the same problem. I can get the card recognized, listing in iwconfig but dhcpcd wlan0 hangs, then times out. |
