when i try to run wine as non root i get this message:

Error: Could not open /dev/nvidiactl because the permissions
are too restricive. Please see the FREAQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
section of /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README for steps
to correct.
wine: Unhandeled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger... |
and i get a window that pops up saying:
Unhandeled page fault on write acess to
0x00000000 at adress 0x40ab1979
Do you wish to debug it?
i have read the faq in the nvida readme, and it has nothing useful, and i have tried changing the group of /dev/nvidiactl and adding myself to it. what should i do?

| Code: | | chmod 666 /dev/nvidia* |
works for me (i like the number  ) but you can also use 660 if you are in the group of the /dev/nvidia* stuff
i guess in the normal settings the group has no write access

actually, what was happening was for some reason when i checked its properties in rox all the group premissions were unchecked so even if i was in the group i couldnt use it. everytime i restart it changes back, how can i perminantly fix this?
also, i managed to install steam on wine, but at exactly 27% during the update it crashes. |

i never tried steam - and i am sure i never will. steam is the reason for me to stop playing cstrike and dod ...
ich you want to set permissions of /dev devices you shoul searuch the forums for udev
i dont use it so far
