Just to make a LONG story become very short :)

Code:

# emerge cups
# emerge foomatic
# rc-update add cupsd default

Visit http://www.boichat.ch/nicolas/capt/, grab the latest souce code and follow the instructions in the README

Code:

$ wget http://www.boichat.ch/nicolas/capt/capt-0.1.tar.gz
$ tar zxvf capt-0.1.tar.gz
$ cd capt-0.1
$ make
# make install
# modprobe usblp
# chmod a+rw /dev/usb/lp0

Now point your browser towards

Code:
http://localhost:631

This is cups control center. Authorise as root when needed.
    Select "Printers" and "Add Printer"

    Set the name of your printer and press "Continue"

    Select any free serial port (for example "Serial Port #8") and press "Continue"

    Press "Continue" again

    Select "Canon" and "Continue"

    Select "Canon LBP-810" and Continue

And now just enjoy your printer! :)

Thanks to Nicolas Boichat for this wonderful driver!

Hi, I bought a canon lbp-810 and tried to install it following you howto.

I am a bit disapointed as nothing is working as expected...

here is what I get when doing a lsusb:

#lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 04a9:260a Canon, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

#ls -l /dev/usb/
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 0 May 14 09:05 lp0

here is what I get in localhost

canon Canon LBP-810 Foomatic/capt (recommended)
Description: laser printer
Location: Home
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: serial:/dev/ttyS7?baud=1200+bits=8+parity=none+flow=none

I even tried to install it with usb:

canon2 Canon LBP-810 Foomatic/capt (recommended)
Description:
Location:
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: usb://Canon/LBP-810

However, it wont print. I tried to do a:
#lp toto.txt
and
#echo 'toto ^L' > /dev/usb/lp0
nothing works... I am a bit disapointed

I would greatly apreciate some help, thanks, my msn contact: amelard@hotmail.com if you want a chat :-)
[/code]

Thanks...

It worked great for me.. I have an lbp-1120... Just did a make and a make install, restarted cupsd then added the printer just like you described, by the way, I didn't change anything in the serialport settings, just pressed continue.

If you are gonna buy yourself a new printer, buy an HP/Epson straight away, it just works better...

Just so you know, the cannon driver stinks... Have been struggling with it for about 5 hours, and then I decieded to kick the shit out and install the 19kb .c file, it works in 1 minute. Why does even Canon bother to create there Linux driver, must be much smarter to release the specs...

Anyway, thanks again...
