I'm running gentoo on an older computer, printserver, little personal webserver, bouncer, etc...
Now i want to backup a winXP machine to that "server".
I googled a bit, and rsnapshot looks interesting, it works fine for backupping my /home/ folders.
But the problem is, the WinXP machine isn't always powered on, so i'll need a cron to mount those folders.
Any idea how i can do this?
Or perhaps a better way....

The Gentoo system is always on, but the WinXP system isn't.
If it's your workstation and you want to manually backup select files, you could always use WinSCP and copy them over that way. If you want to have the WinXP system backup files you could first have it create tarballs of whatever directories you want to backup, and then use sftp via putty + sshkey to dump the files that way.
Otherwise Samba if you're wanting to map a share via a script and copy that way.
Perhaps give more details? |
