Im having issues getting my mouse to work. The liveCD autodetected it just fine, but now that Gentoo is installed (stage2) I cant get my mouse to work. I have a Logitech Cordless Reciever (according to the liveCD) and its connected to a PCI USB 2.0 adapter. I cant tell if it is the mouse or the adapter that is not installed, or both, and I dont know what to expect, since I am farly new to linux.

cs.cracker,

Do you have a /proc/usb/bus/devices and can you see your mouse listed there ?
If that file is missing, your kerenl is down a USB module to two.

Mice are USB 1.1 devices, so you need a USB 1.1 root hub driver.

I dont have a /proc/usb, but I do have /proc/bus/usb/devices.
Code:
T:  Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#=  1 Spd=12  MxCh= 2
B:  Alloc=  0/900 us ( 0%), #Int=  0, #Iso=  0
D:  Ver= 1.10 Cls=09(hub  ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs=  1
P:  Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 2.06
S:  Manufacturer=Linux 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 uhci_hcd
S:  Product=Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB
S:  SerialNumber=0000:00:07.2
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr=  0mA
I:  If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub  ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub
E:  Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS=   2 Ivl=255ms

How would I go about adding this module? Do I have to download a driver first?

cs.cracker,

Thats a good sign, it shows that your root hub driver is loaded but your mouse is not shown.
Is that just a fragment or is that all there is?
Sorry about the typo in the path name?

Do you have a /dev/input/mouse0 ?
That will be the first usb mouse ?
If not can you post the usb fragment from your /usr/src/linux/.config

cs.cracker,

You have the
Code:
CONFIG_USB_UHCI_HCD=y
option enabled. Thats OK for Intel and VIA chipsets. everyone else needs
Code:
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD

If you are sure you have Intel or VIA root hubs, thats fine.
lspci may help your here.
To be safe you can build both as modules, then use modprobe to load/unload each one to determine what works by trial and error.
You must only load one, or neither will work apart from that rare case where you have VIA/Intel root hubs on board and another sort on a PCI card.

Ok, now my mouse is being show inside /dev/input/ and inside /proc/bus/usb/001/, and its being recognized as 'Logitech Cordless Reciever', but it still isnt being activated in the console. Do I have to add a command to make it 'turn on' the mouse?

cs.cracker,

For the console mouse you need to
Code:
emerge gpm
and configure it. Also do
Code:
rc-update add gpm defualt
so it starts at boot time.
