|
|
i have a video dvd-r (non-encrypted) and i'd like to make a copy of it.
i tried using cp to copy the dvd file tree onto the hard drive, but i get an "Input/output error" on big files >4GB. i tried dvdbackup, but it also fails on the big file, with the error "Error reading MENU VOB".
any ideas?

Is your kernel and compiled with large block device support? _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

i compiled large block device support into the kernel and i'm having the same problem. i think large block device support might be different from large file support, and i think my system has large file support.
it shouldn't be a large file problem anyway, since dvdbackup works on double-layer dvds.
has anybody gotten this error with dvdbackup?
Code: | Error reading MENU VOB |

what type of file system are you trying to copy it to? The filesystem itself may not support file sizes of reater than 4GB. |

the hard drive has a reiserfs fs.
i've gotten the same error with two different dvds, so it's no the dvd.
here's the output of ulimit:
Code: | $ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 32
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files (-n) 1024
pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8
stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192
cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes (-u) 4095
virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited

it looks like i have large file support.
i'm beginning to think it's a decryption problem. i've seen a couple posts like this:
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t215583.html
how can i troubleshoot this? |

Actually, if you are trying to copy a non-encrypted DVD-R, you should be able to use K3B. Just use the copy disc option. If that doesn't work you can use dd to copy the contents of the disc to a file on your hard drive. (An ISO image) Then you should be able to burn the image in K3B or use growisofs directly. |

i tried what you suggested and it fails with
Code: | dd: reading `/dev/hdb': Input/output error |
after 1637195776 bytes (1.6GB). is it possible to not have large file support using the 2.6 kernel? |

Quote: | is it possible to not have large file support using the 2.6 kernel? | I don't think that's the problem. It's possible that the disc is corrupt at that specific point. Try and copy it to a completely different machine if you can. |
