Hi all,
I am trying to install staroffice 8 beta from sun and when installing it fails complaining that it cannot find /bin/sh. But /bin is in the path and /bin/sh exists. Anyone else managed to get staroffice 8 beta to install? _________________ http://www.CyberDesigns.co.za

yes, i did.
I've just converted the rpm's to tar.gz with rpm2targz, and then untared them to /opt/staroffice8-beta. Takes some time but it´s imo the easiest way, and i didn´t want to emerge rpm and stuff... |

I have also installed StarOffice8 beta. My first attempt failed because I didn't have rpm. I decided to emerge rpm because I am delusional and thought that would make the install script work. But it failed because of missing dependencies.
If my... ahem... disc were bigger I might've hacked the Java junk in the installer to modify the args to rpm to ignore dependencies, but instead I just cd'd into the RPMS directory and ranThat installed the software into /opt/staroffice8-beta and I've been running it from there. I assume that the install scripts do other nice things, like configure menus and do the magic to make nautilus recognize the file types and extensions and properly run so8-beta, but going the direct rpm route seems to miss that.
I've only just started to look at so8, but already it crashes when I try to save and it is really hard to get it to save in a format besides the new open document formats.
