Out of curiosity, when will the new Gentoo 2005.0 be released? Cause I am eager to have it going up since march break kicks in after this weekend for me . I'd like to get a start on it then. I know I could use an older version, but I won't have the internet when I am installing Gentoo so I'd like to have 2005.0. Any Info on this would be great thanks!

From the gentoo weekly newsletter of today:
Quote: | A set of exploitable bugs[1] in gaim and mozilla-firefox (remote exploits)
and in qt and kdelibs (locally exploitable) has been discovered just in
time before the final Gentoo Linux 2005.0 release build. Although this
interrupted the build and prevented it from finishing mere hours before
its completion was scheduled, Gentoo's release engineering team
unanimously decided to drop it and reconstruct the release media with all
the security bugs resolved prior to release. Thanks to the Gentoo security
team for catching the bugs, and the profiles' lead developers for putting
up with the delay and testing the builds on their architectures yet again! |
So that means it was done, security issues they want to redo it. How long this will take is not mentioned.[/quote] |

All you have to do is install from the most current, which is 2004.3 and when you do have internet access you can then emerge any packages that you want installed and update the existing packages and that will bring your system up to anything that is included in the 2005.0 version. That's one of the nice features about Gentoo, as long as you keep it updated you never have to install a new version as you do with Mandrake, Suse etc. _________________ Frustration leads to knowledge. |

Please see this FAQ: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-120831.html. Essentially there is no answer except, "when it's ready".
