Someone want to post their /etc/portage/package.keywords, so I know which packages to mark as ~x86

Thanks in advance :-)

What audiosink/audiosrc are you using? Check /system/gstreamer/0.8/default in gconf-editor.

Are these blocked packages going to be a problem?

# emerge -pv gnome

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

I explained this earlier in the thread, just unmerge the offending packages.

I saw you answer to the to the second one but not the first blocked one which is the gnome-themes, so if I unmerge the themes package do I then re-emerge it afterwards, I don't have to have gnome 2.10 if it has no themes.

The gtk engines included with gnome-themes-2.8 have been moved into the gtk-engines-2.6 package. Since gtk-engines-2.6 and gnome-themes-2.8 install the same engines, they can't coexist. Un-merge gnome-themes-2.8 and let gnome-themes.2.10 install.

well nautilus is using my application font which is Bitstream Vera Sans 8, now this looks fine in all my applications, but in nautilus because I keep my icon view at 75% it's way too small. I'm just not sure why this changed from before, or if there's anyway to fix it?

eh.... 2.10 seems like 2.8 plus. nothing really great. hopefully 2.12 will be better. totem with gstreamer still seams a little buggy... frames lag a little at 24 depth resolution.

Works on amd64 just fine too!

Just add "~amd64" to the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS variable in the following ebuilds:
Code:

gnome-base/control-center-2.10
gnome-extra/gnome-utils-2.10
gnome-base/gnome-applets-2.10
app-admin/gnome-system-tools-1.2.0
gnome-extra/bug-buddy-2.10
app-text/gnome-doc-utils-0.1.3
x11-themes/gnome-backgrounds-2.10
gnome-base/eel-2.10
gnome-base/gnome-menus-2.10
gnome-base/nautilus-2.10
gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.10
app-arch/file-roller-2.10

Evolution 2.2 works great too.

I think there are some signifigant changes. Speed increase, yay. Also, control centre continues to improve, my gui overall looks bubblier and cleaner for some reason (which is great for me). Nautilus is better. What can I say, I'm a gnome girl, yay gnome! I think I'm going to see if they sell gnome mini-tees ;)

The dbus/hal/gnome-volume-manager doesn't work anymore now that I"ve updated

Code:
libhal.c 767 : org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply raised
"No reply within specified time"

it was working before, can anyone tell me what versions of everything that i need for it to be happy again/

EDIT: I updated my kernel. I think it was an INOTIFY problem

PostPosted: Fri Mar 11, 2005 6:48 am    Post subject: gnome-light Reply with quote

I just finished an install of gnome-light on my previously kde-only system - installed and works great.

FWIW, I placed all of the gnome-2.10 mask in package.unmask and package.keywords (as described very well previously by others in this thread) and emerge'd gentoo-light (this worked because gnome-base/gnome-light-2.8.1 only specifies package version minimums, not maximums) plus a few extra's like gnome-base/gnome-applets, gnome-extra/gnome-games, x11-themes/gnome-themes-extras and gnome-extra/gnome-media. Placing *all* of the gnome-2.10 mask in package.unmask and package.keywords allowed for new dependencies (in 2.10) to be installed that gnome-base/gnome-light-2.8.1 didn't know about.

It's clear the devs have already put a ton of work into gnome-2.10 (even though it's hard masked) because it compiled first time - no errors - THANK YOU!

So now I have a pretty gnome and didn't have to install mozilla, ephinany or evolution.

Hope this helps someone.

Greg

I just wanted to let gnome 2.10 users that gnome 2.10 support has been added to denu. Denu does not just edit menus but allows for unlimited customization through the program. Denu detects the programs installed and allows you to add them to your menu. For more information see http://denu.sourceforge.net or go straight to http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2956&release_id=5002 for the ebuild. Mailing lists are available on the berlios project site.

Denu isn't in portage yet, so where should I place the ebuild ? In /usr/portage/gnome-extra/denu or something ?

You should place it in your portage overlay directory.

For details look in the portage documentation.
(sorry, no time to explain in detail now)

Excellent, there's a gnome-menu-editor in gnome CVS but it segfaults on me, I'll give denu a go when I get home.

Cheers,

I tried starting Denu, but it failed :(

Code:
sanderfox@sanderfox ~ $ denu
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/denu", line 1203, in ?
    treeviewdndex = DenuGUI()
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 1090, in __init__
    self.populate_installed('', 'yes')
  File "/usr/bin/denu", line 747, in populate_installed
    prgms = self.installed_programs()
  File "/usr/bin/denu", line 469, in installed_programs
    menu_images = cPickle.load(open(config['dynamic'] + 'menu_images.p','r'))
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/cache/denu/menu_images.p

the file isn't inside the tar.bz2 too.

having a look at http://www.gnome.org/~davyd/gnome-2-10/ you can see the gnome-keyring manager in action. I saw that this package gets installed along with gnome 2.10 but how can I start the program?

No it doesn't get installed, and it isn't part of the gnome-2.10 release. Once the redesign is done it might make it into 2.12.

Anybody posted a bug? I don't use firefox.. I know we couldn't use it in the past because our build didn't install pkg-config files and there might have been some other reason I am not aware of or interested in :)
