Ok i tried using the second cd installer and after a bit of tweaking and heart ache i got it to finally start installing. NOw if only I could find the best config file for the actual game. I dont have interest in any other game but WoW. Could someone who has WoW working perfectly in wine-cvs please post their config files. Thanks

Great now I cannot get it to go to cd2. I heard that you could copy the files to the hdd and install from that but for some reason I cannot copy over the Installer MPQ file from the first disc and a ls -l shows that there are 2 of them and way too small to be the real one :(. What is going on here ?

Wow that was very difficult. It turned out 3 of the 4 discs had problems reading in linux and I had to manually copy the files on a windows computer to a cdr to get htem to read properly. That was a pain in the ass so I think i'll just take my current files and burn them to a dvdr now.

There is no downloable version unless they very recently changed that.

I remember having this problem when trying to install WoW from the DVD. I thought about mounting every CD one-by-one, but what I did instead was copied the whole CD to my windows partition and then installed WoW from there. For some reason it worked from the windows partition...

im having exactally the same problem, using cedega -

using the installers form the other CD's dosent work
copying all 4 cd's top the hdd and installing from there dosent work.
and lacking a windows partision i cannot install to it.

Cedega support say i should install libpng3 - but this program lacks an ebuild, so i am nervous about the problems it could create.

kernel 2.6.11-cko3 (reiser fs 4)
Nvidia FX5200 Ultra - driver Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg
other games run fine. GLX works.
Cedega version = 1.3 therefore its not a prelink or a vm_legacy htingy error

hrmm, how about emerge libpng ?

ive always found it easiest to install WoW on a windows partition, patch it up fully and then copy it to a linux partition

Code:

bash-2.05b# emerge -p libpng

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] media-libs/libpng-1.2.8

so its not libpng 3 - ill try anyway.
also i have no windows partiton... that boat sailed a long time ago :)

... nope didnt work.

running from the command line produced more of the same errors -

$cedega Installer.exe

Code:

Missing symbol {Error%dOpening%s}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
Missing symbol {ContactTechSupport}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
Missing symbol {Error%dOpening%s}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
Missing symbol {ContactTechSupport}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
Missing symbol {Error%dOpening%s}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
Missing symbol {ContactTechSupport}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger...

Solved! (sort of)

Install WoW using Wine,
run it using Cedega

After having to reinstall recently I encountered the same error. After playing around with my fstab I got it to work by taking off unhide. It might work for you :)

I'm currently looking into this. Please post in the WoW thread from now on though.
