I can't seem to find anything about this throught the search. Well, I did find something, but for some unknown reason, I can't understand anything from that German Gentoo forum...
I'm looking at how to have KMail work with GnuPG. The Gentoo Weekly Newsletter is GPG signed, as are some posts on BugTrac. KMail always tells me that I don't have PGP configured when I get to those messages. I currently don't feel any need to sign, even less encrypt, any of my email, but I'd like to do the verification-that-the-message-is-authentic thingy! Eventually I'll also do that verification-that-the-source-code-I-downloaded-is-authentic thing!
Unfortunatly, like I said, I can't seem to find anything on that matter, and the KMail help doesn't help there. In KMail's configuration, Crypto Plugins tab, what do I put there? Is there any guide/How-to somewhere?
Thanks everyone! |

Hello.
I suppose that you already have a key, or at least know how to get one, and all this basic stuff.
I've used this with KDE 3.0.x and I am currently running 3.1 RC5. But more or less it's the same procedure to set things up.
Installation:
- emerge gnupg and check your USE Flags to contain "crypt".
- then emerge kmail (well knetwork etc. actually) to get gnupg support.
- if you want to, you might also try kgpg. It's quite nice in my opinion.
KMail configuration:
1.) configure settings for your users identity (!):
(I am currently running a german KDE Layout, and I'm to lazy to switch so I'll just guess what it might be called in english )
Ok, so open "Configure KMail", go to your user's identity, click edit/change and open the second tab advanced. Search for a field/box called "OpenPGP Key" and select your private key.
2.) configure settings for "security" -> tab "OpenPGP" and select GnuPG.
(The default "Auto" will probably work too.)
Optionally also select the options below. (I usually use "y,y,n,n,y,y") Notice: at least in KDE 3.1's KMail you also have a tab called ~ "Crypto Modules". Just forget this, I didn't add/change anything there....
I hope you'll get along with this - just a short sum up out of my memory and well...it's been a long day...
KMail and GnuPG works really, really fine for me (even better than Mozilla + Enigmail IMHO). |

Thanks int1, I'll be reading that when I can get more than 2 minutes!
Auka: Actually, I don't even have a key. I didn't see the point of generating one since I wasn't planning on encrypting anything. But I guess I have to.
I'm also running KDE 3.1 RC5, but I didn't know/thought about the "crypt" USE flag, so it's not there (adding it right now), so I'll be re-emerging knetwork this night, and I'll be re-reading the GPG docs in the near future!
Thanks again everyone! |
