I can't get firefox 1.0 keyword address bar search with google "I'm feeling lucky" to work.

Here's what I know already:

In Firefox you can type "something" into the address bar and it will use google's "I'm feeling Lucky" feature to take you to the highest ranked page, so if I type "blockbuster" it will take me to http://www.blockbuster.com

If you want to disable this feature you go into about:config and set "keyword.enabled" to "false"

You can also type "google something" into the address bar and it should perform a google search, if you type "amazon something" it will perform an amazon search etc etc/

if you have set "keyword.enabled" to "false" then type "something" into the address bar it will be expanded to http://www.something.com as long as you have the relevant "browser.fixup.*" settings set.

All of this I am well aware of...

The problem is that I have done something to my firefox configuration over the past month which means that despite "keyword.enabled" being set to "true" if I type "blockbuster" in the address bar, for example, I am taken to http://blockbuster . If I type "google blockbuster" into the address bar I am taken to "http://www.hackingnetflix.com/netflix/2005/02/cool_google_mov.html" ??!!??

If I add a new bookmark to http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&btnI=I'm%20Feeling%20Lucky and then set its keyword to google then I actually go to http://www.blockbuster.com when I type "google blockbuster" in the address bar, so it seems to override the strange google hackingnetflix keyword.

I don't remember ever going to http://www.hackingnetflix.com so I don't know where that coming from, I can't see it in my bookmarks, I don't see it in about:config, and my google search engine to the right of the address bar has been working fine all along.

I greped for "hackingnet" but found nothing:

Ha ha - Yes I just realized that myself while I was having lunch.

Some additional information...

The reason why "google blockbuster" is taking me to http://www.hackingnetflix.com is because it's passing "google blockbuster" to Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" tool, and hackingnetflix is the winning result. On my windows box it takes me to the regular google search instead of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" redirect, although about:config keyword.URL is pointing to Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" in both cases.

If I type just "blockbuster" in the address bar then firefox never queries google and firefox never attempts to surround blockbuster with "www." and ".com" to resolve the 502 error, this is the same on my Windows machine.

If I type "blockbuster video" then I'm redirected to http://www.blockbuster.com through Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" tool, this is the same on my windows machine.

So it seems that "I'm Feeling Lucky" address bar searching has been set to have a search threshold of > 1 word. Plus browser fixup is disabled even though it looks enabled from about:config.

Weird!

Any idea if there's a way to set firefox to a >0 word threshold for address bar searching? I've checked other peoples' copies and that seems to be the way that it works by default.

I just realized something...

The people who were able to arrive at http://www.blockbuster.com just by entering "blockbuster" in the address field were able to do so through the about.config browser.fixup settings not through Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" as I had first thought.

On my firefiox it seems that I don't have the Quick Search bookmarks, or rather they aren't visible anyway.

Despite the fact that the Quick Search bookmarks aren't set I can still type "goto blockbuster" in the address bar and I will be redirected to http://www.blockbuster.com, no problem there, except I don't know where it is figuring out what to do upon seeing the "goto" keyword.

If I type "google blockbuster" then it seems to act as though I had typed "goto google blockbuster".

If I type "blockbuster" then it fails to prepend "www." or append ".com" despite browser.fixup being set.

I'm sure that this has an obvious explanation but why on earth am I seeing these two behaviours...

Hmmmmmmm
