Hi,

I have nearly finished installing iseries clientaccess latest issue 1.8 on my Gentoo box.
Although I can run setup5250, I can not still get AS/400 emulator on my X.
I think it is stupid problem however l still can't solve it.

Code:

bash-2.05b$ ibm5250
5250: [ INFORMATIONAL ]: Build Date: 28 January 2005 (1.8).
5250: [ ERROR ]: NSC0017: Xt Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion.
5250: [ ERROR ]: NSC0017: Xt Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-m-*" to type FontSet.

I got lucida in font list
Anybody got some idea?

buggy,

are you using a font server??

if not do you have the following in your xorg.conf

Code:
Section "Files"
        ........
        FontPath        "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
        FontPath        "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
        FontPath        "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
        FontPath        "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
        ...........
EndSection

Hi Transienteagle,

I have added entry with unscaled fonts into my xorg.conf, however still it does not help.

I am afraid it realy needs X font server, I got ver 1.6 on my production server (Debian)
and it works fine but there is Xft installed.

I will install xft on my Gentoo and see if it helps.

Kind regards

Buggy,

Let me know how you get on. I did check the redbooks and there was a specific reference to not requiring xft providing that you have those 4 lines (and of course fonts installed) within your xorg.conf.

I would do a quick check in your xorg log to make sure that the fonts are getting loaded correctly.

PS I too use Debian, never tried it with gentoo, hence interest

Kind regards

P.S.
I have been using Debian for a long time and still do in production environment, nevertheless Gentoo sticks better to my ThinkPad.
I encourage you to give Gentoo a try, I am sure you will love it.

Buggy,

Appreciate it.

I notice that your font path has TTF's at the beginning. I wonder if the problem is as simple as that the fixed fonts need to be at the beginning of the path.

Code:
(**) FontPath set to "/usr/share/fonts/TTF,/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/75dpi

so I wonder if you could do a test with the following section;

Quote:
Section "Files"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
........... <<<<rest of fonts go after these four lines>>>>>............
EndSection

PS I am sorry that I misled you in my previous post. I use Gentoo for all of my development work and as my personal workstation and laptop but I use debian for all my client based work.
