Why are these applications not available to be run by unprivileged users by default? Anyone know?
This doesn't make any sense to me. |

they use some system calls that are only usable by root. Same reason why 'ping' can only be used by root, except that ping is a suid program (means it runs with the priviledges of root and not of the current user). |
