post your ~/.xinitrc file, if you dont have one, create it and put the startup script for your window manager
Code:
gnome-session

for gnome or
Code:
startkde

for KDE, IIRC.

I have a problem whereby X keeps on changing its resolution and colour depth - without me changing anything.

Originally I had X @ 640x480.
I changed xorg.conf.new to show 1024x768 copied to /etc/X11/xorg.conf restarted X - worked fine.
Whenever I reboot gentoo though it reverts back to 640x480, the xorg.conf files are still set to the 1024x768 though, so I have to change them to 800x600 - restart, funnily enough it works again.

I decided that something was wrong with X, so I went through the Xorf -configure option (I done this as root), this set my screen at 1280x1024 (changed this to 1152x868 and set it to default). Logged out of root, went in as my usual user - resolution is now 1600x1200 and colour depth is at 256 (I think)!!! What's going on?! It's gone crazy!

Anyone know how this can happen?

Appreciate any help!

Ally
