Is there any software similar to Irfanview for example?

I need image thumbnail browsing, I need resizing and rotating features, good quality and smooth operation.

I tried showimg and I don't like it.
The KDE apps are kinda too simple.
And GAIM isn't for image viewing and minor changes.

Try GQview.

Or wait about 1/2 year, then my own will be finished.
(At the moment my own app ist faster than any known other app in thumbnail creating :), but lacks to many other features :( )

I'm very impressed with Digikam.
As the name implies, (1) its focus is on managing digital camera photos, and (2) it's a KDE program.
It's really smooth, has lots of tools and options, and a great plugin architecture.

I also hear good things about Gwenview, but haven't used it much myself.

hands down: PornView. Annoying thing is the video, there is probably a way to disable it but i haven't remembered to check when i'm using it. reason it is annoying, scrolling through images and a video appears in the dir, have to wait for it to start and cant just use mouse to goto next image. of course image and video seperation is ultimately the right thing to do in this scenario.

it is very simple and can handle anything. great slideshow and single mouse click operation.

i'd like to give a shot out to my my favorite camera browsing app: gtkam! =)

outspoken: You've sold it well, I just emerged pornview but when I start it it just hangs on autodetecting video driver:

Code:
doron@gentoo doron $ pornview
xine_thread: init threads
xine_thread: open display
gtkxine: auto-detecting video driver...

Any ideas?
Thanx

gwenview is nice, but it doesn't have resize/resample.

I use resize and resample very much for my digital photos.

I'll try digikam, but I hate that digikam file in every folder.Feels like the windows thumbnails file :).
Is there any way to disable it?

I am on kde, so the gqciew and the other gnome apps don't work for me.I think.

edit:I was sleeping at that time, I meant gnome....

No problem with GQview under KDE. Actually, it uses the same thumbnails as kde does (I believe, because the docs of the newer versions say that it's using Thumbnail Managing Standard).

I second this. You get the developed file management capabilities of Rox along with the quick feh. It's what I currently use.

I like GThumb just a bit more than gqview. GThumb can generate web galleries, which is quite useful. Its interface is also a bit better than gqview's IMO.

You don't need to disable it. The files you're mentioned came from an old digikam version. Now there is only one file (digikam.db) in its album library path and the created thumbnails are stored in ~/.thumbnails which is freedesktop standard.

Hi,

I'm looking for some image viewer which could handle multi image files (Irfan view in XP)

I have a couple files which contain a number of seperate images but all linux software is only capable of showing the first one. Gimp shows it as seperate layers but handling it is highly uncomfortable. I need something like Irfan view

Regards
Wojtek

I can tell recomend this:

Code:
# emerge gthumb
# emerge eog

and of course

Code:
# emerge gimp

If you want one for console, this

Code:
# emerge fbi

even this

Code:
#emerge fbv

but i prefer the first one, for console off course.
